Welcome to our introduction of the Fairgrounds Wine & Spirits blog!!

We’re not 100% sure what we’re going to be doing yet, but we do know that we’ll be doing it about once a week.

There will definitely be some wine talk—specifically, we are going to try to cut through some of the nonsense about wine that we get hung up on sometimes so we can all get back to drinking. Because wine is grape juice. It is made from grapes. And though it is often made with great care and expertise, we have all heard one too many heated arguments about whether or not it tastes like blackcurrants or blackberries. Come on, guys. It tastes like grapes.

For spirits, we’re going to be talking about cocktails, mostly. We’re all amateur mixologists over here and over the years have stumbled across some really delicious combinations of spirits. We have also had our fair share of failures. Seriously, some of the things we have made were truly terrible. Wouldn’t-drink-again-on-a-dare terrible. Wouldn’t-drink-again-for-money terrible. Like really, genuinely bad. We invite to share in our success and learn from our failure.

Beer. Beer is hard because Craft Beer is kind of exploding right now and it’s nearly impossible to keep up. We could probably write a review of a beer a day and not even come close to keeping up with what’s going on out there. But we have to try, I guess. Tell you what, every couple of weeks, we will pick out the absolute weirdest beer on our shelves t, drink it, and then tell you about it. Sound good? Sounds good.

Lastly, in addition to the weekly articles about random booze-related nonsense, we will write up one of our products that we feel deserves some recognition. We will skip the mainstream, the national brands and the like—they do a fine job of telling you about themselves. We will try to focus on the smaller brands and seasonal items and tell you as much as we can.
